Fortunately, DJ, Chowder, and Jenny save him by attacking the house with an excavator. In desperation, Nebbercracker asks DJ for his assistance in destroying the house. After a chase to a construction site, where Chowder engages the house with an excavator, DJ swings on a crane and throws dynamite down the chimney, blowing up the house. DJ and Jenny are knocked into the construction site as a result of the house and Chowder's battle on top of the cliff that leads down to the site. They manage to formulate a plan where Chowder will lure the house under a crane so that the two can drop the stick of dynamite down its chimney which leads to the heart. This plan is stalled, however, when the house is dragged down the hill and it breaks apart as a result, leading to the heroes celebrating their apparent victory.
Running Time
Therefore, Constance has suffered too long and despite his benevolent intentions to keep the children away from the house, it won't improve either of their lives, which didn't help by her meant to pass on to the afterlife long ago. The four of them run in terror, going down an alleyway where Nebbercracker is forced to stay behind due to his old age preventing him from keeping up and encouraging the kids to go on without him. The house continues to chase down DJ and his friends until they were near a construction site, where, for the safety of the children, Nebbercracker throws a stone brick at his house and stands up against Constance, revealing his non-child-hating ways in the process. After DJ successfully destroyed the house, he spent his final moments with Constance's spirit who was now free from the house, and thanked him saying that "for 45 years, we've been trapped for 45 years, and now we're free!". That Halloween night, instead of candy, he handed out items he previously confiscated as his apology.
Role in the film:
Following her death, Nebbercracker completed construction on the house, because he knew that's what she would've wanted. However, Constance's spirit took control of the house, causing it to come to life. To ensure their safety, Nebbercracker put "Beware" and "Keep Away" signs on his lawn, and acted mean towards children who came near his house and confiscated their possessions so they wouldn’t dare come near the house again. Before they could drive away, however, the house makes a groaning sound to lure the two cops closer.
DJ Walterson
They assume the house is inhabited by Mr. Nebbercracker's soul and that the only way to kill the house is to destroy its heart, its source of life. They conclude that the heart must be the fireplace, as DJ realizes that the chimney has been smoking since Nebbercracker's heart attack. That night, DJ has a nightmare where the house's shadow prepares to grab him and he wakes up when he receives phone calls from Mr. Nebbercracker's house with no-one on the other end. DJ eavesdrop on Zee's boyfriend, Bones, who tells Zee about losing his kite on Nebbercracker's lawn when he was younger, and that Nebbercracker supposedly ate his wife. DJ finds one of the house's windows blinds (the eyelids) opening up, DJ thinking that he is being haunted, prepares to investigate the house with Chowder's help. Upon reaching the crane, DJ uses it to swing over the house's chimney and throws the dynamite down to its heart.
During the climax, as Constance tries to eat Nebbercracker, Chowder fights the house off with an excavator, causing it to fall into a pit. However, DJ accidentally desecrated Constance's remains by breaking the concrete casing that covered the corpse, revealing the skeleton and inciting the house's fury. The house then picks them up one by one after spotting the kids before they find the place to hide. The house had the slinkies snatch Chowder before doing the same on the pipes (organs) that snatch Jenny and had the wooden stairs attack DJ, who barely escaped back to the hall that turned into a mouth cavity, with his friends nearly devoured.

Afterward, while DJ sneaks away, Bones (who had lost his kite when he was 10 years old) expresses his anger and sadness over his stolen kite on Nebbercracker's house by damaging the lawn. When Constance sees this, she proceeds to possess his kite within the basement (the stomach) and uses it to lure Bones into the house. Unaware that this was a trap, Bones approaches the kite, only to have it coil around him and the house quickly devours him. The house lures the officers closer and then attacks and eats both of them.
Constance Nebbercracker
Nebbercracker, realising that it was Halloween attempts to go back to his house and calm his wife before she becomes active. He reveals his past to DJ; revealing how he met his wife and the real circumstances of her death and her soul possessing their house before he attempts to go back inside. The following day, a girl named Jenny is out selling candy for homeowners to give to trick-or-treaters. DJ and Chowder see her approaching Nebbercracker's house and rush to warn her not to go near the dangerous building. When the house fails to do anything, the police officers conclude that the children were just playing a prank on them and leave. While Chowder deals with the house, the house grabs and shakes the excavator, causing Jenny to fall out of the excavator and into the lake, and knocks DJ into the lake as well.

Chowder
DJ's caretaker, Elizabeth "Zee" arrives, and the two immediately squabble. DJ urges Nebbercracker to let Constance go on to the afterlife for the better. Nebbercracker is uneasy about this, stating that he’ll have no one if he lets her go, but DJ convinces him otherwise. Unfortunately, Constance's anger shoots through the roof upon overhearing their conversation; she turns two of the trees around her into hands and legs, uproots the house, and chases the four of them. He attempts to blow up his house with a dynamite, but Constance, having lost all reason and succumbing to her urge to kill, grabs Nebbercracker.
Early life
He then asks whether DJ is planning on trick-or-treating, to which DJ replies that he feels that he's too old for that activity. Jenny calls her mom about her encounter with the house, but is not believed. The three then witness the house consuming a dog, making them realize the house waits for its prey to get close enough before devouring it.
They fall into the basement and find a collection of toys accumulated from Mr. Nebbercracker's lawn, as well as a cage containing the body of Mr. Nebbercracker's wife encased in cement. Jenny wondered why Mr. Nebbercracker build a shrine if he murdered her. Chowder suggested that he felt guilty or something but DJ, determined to find our the truth knew that Mr. Nebbercracker was hiding something.
He is a 12-year-old boy who is known for spying on Horace Nebbercracker and his house through a telescope. He acts, and is treated, like a younger boy and is often thought to be crazy. Her tongue resembles a red elongated carpet, a chandelier resembling a uvula, and a green throat which is an opened pit with sharp boards circling.
As Jenny goes home with her mom, Nebbercracker bids farewell to DJ and Chowder while giving Chowder his basketball back and jokingly tells them to stay off his lawn. As the boys leave, Chowder states that Nebbercracker will find a way to get his life back on track. DJ tells Nebbercracker it is time to let Constance go, but she overhears. The house breaks free from the foundation, with trees to support it (the arms), and chases the group to a nearby construction site.
They conclude that the heart must be the furnace, as DJ realizes that the chimney has been smoking since Nebbercracker died. Chowder provides a cold medicine-filled dummy (made from a vacuum cleaner and some other objects) that should cause the house to sleep long enough for them to douse the furnace. Officers Landers and Lester thwart their plan upon arrival and they are detained when Landers finds the cold medicine stolen from Chowder's father's pharmacy inside the dummy.
Seeing her heading towards the house, they run out to warn her; she merely thinks they’re crazy, but when she turns around, she sees the house coming alive. Shortly afterwards, an ambulance arrives to take Nebbercracker to the hospital as DJ and Chowder look on in dismay. To make matters worse, Nebbercracker's departure causes Constance's spirit within the house to awaken, and with Nebbercracker gone, there is no one to keep her calm. While they agree with people that DJ might be crazy, they nevertheless love him and try to do what's best for him.
Nebbercracker arrives home alive, revealing that Constance's spirit is within the house and that he did not eat her but instead had given her some of the happiest times in her life. As a young man, he met Constance, then an unwilling member of a circus freak show, and fell in love with her despite her obesity. One Halloween, as children tormented her due to her size, Constance tried chasing them away but lost her footing and fell to her death in the basement. Nebbercracker had finished the house, knowing it was what she would have wanted but, aware that Constance's spirit made the house come alive, he pretended to hate children in order to protect them. They fall into the basement and find a collection of toys accumulated from Nebbercracker's lawn, as well as a cage containing the body of Nebbercracker's wife Constance the Giantess encased in cement. Nebbercracker arrives home alive, revealing that Constance's spirit is within the house.
